iPhone is most popular camera phone on Flickr
I'm often impressed by the photos I get out of my little iPhone. It's not a pro-level DSLR for sure, but for quick, off-the-cuff snapshots, it does a very good job.I'm not alone in my belief. Computerworld's analysis of current Flickr Data shows that the iPhone is their most popular camera phone. Part of that is the novelty of the iPhone, undoubtedly. Owners continue to relish any excuse to whip them out.
The other is ease of posting a photo to Flickr. Once you've added your special Flickr email address to your contact list, sharing a photo is a snap. Tap it once, tap "Email photo," enter the first few letters of your Flickr email address and hit Send. Done.
While we're on the subject, I'll offer my tip for taking decent iPhone photos. Unlike nearly every other camera ever made, the iPhone exposes an image when the "shutter button" is released, not depressed. With that in mind, here's the three step process I follow
- Press and hold the "shutter button"
- Compose the shot
- Release

Let me give a great big "second" on the tip about the shutter. Once I understood that tid-bit, my photo taking improved dramatically.
When can I get a camera with a self-timer?

Furthermore, before moving the phone again (while taking a picture), wait for the "shutter" to snap completely shut, to avoid getting a blurry shot as you move to put the phone back in your pocket.

This may not be "new" news, but I wouldn't throw around the accusation of plagiarism that lightly. That chart is generated by Flickr, and anyone could take a snapshot of it. It's *most* likely TUAW grabbed that image from Flickr itself, not from ComputerWorld.

uPoze, iFlickr or Pushr will automatically upload photos you take to Flickr.

I would agree, but with one caveat - you need good lighting.

This is similar to the news about Google reporting more hits from iPhone than other mobile devices. I tried upoze, iFlickr and pushr but MobileFlickr comes on top for ease of use and plugging into flickr.

The stats are also a little unfair. There's only one model of iPhone, whereas there are multiple models of the other brands. I wonder how it would change if it was brand-vs-brand, not model vs. model.

I rarely use my "real" camera anymore.
I like that I can take photos and then email them right from the iPhone to my Flickr page.

While I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone is the most popular camera phone on Flickr, the data you're using could be misleading. In order for photos to be counted in the Flickr camera charts, they must include accurate EXIF data. Not all camera phones include EXIF when uploading to Flickr. For example, hardly any Treo photos are counted in the analysis. The iPhone numbers could also be understated.

Most popular? probably yes, due to its easy connectivity.
Best camera phone? Not by far! Not even close. I have used many camera phones in the last couple of years and iPhone is the worst. Don't get me wrong; I love my iPhone. But let's be fair; it's camera is simply awful.
As a heavy DSLR user, I have to say using the words DSLR and iPhone's camera in the same sentence is quite obscured.
