iPhone Tip: Easier Home Screen Scrolling
The main features of 1.1.3 have already been dissected but some lesser known gems still remain. One of our readers, David B. Alford sent us the tip which is a very handy way to scroll across the Home screen.
I continually stumble onto little features of the iPhone, that Apple didn’t mention
in their new update announcements. Everyone likes the ability to have multiple
home pages which will hold more icons. It is a sure sign that new programming
will have new places to add icons.Everyone knows that you simply “flick” the screen to the left or right to move
from one home screen to the next. What Apple didn’t say, was that there is a
much more easier way to do this. As you add additional home pages to the
iphone, multiple dots start appearing just above the icon doc that by default
displays the main functions of the iPhone. (Phone, Mail, Safari, Ipod) You
can easily move from one home (or Springboard) screen by simply touching
the area to the left or right of the white dots that each represent a different
home screen. That’s it, no more flicking the screen right or left to move to
the next screen. Just touch the active area to the right or left of the row of
dots, and the screen instantly changes. Of course this won’t work if you don’t
have multiple screens. As I stumble across more of these tips, I’ll feed them to you.
Thanks David!

It worked fine with 1.1.2 and an application with multiple screens (meteo).

While this may have been in 1.1.2, in the weather widgit, I don’t believe that we had multiple springboard sceens to use it on, until 1.1.3.
I wasn’t aware of the same capability built into the weather widget, but while I was at it, I tested the dots that are used to select different safari screens, and it doesn’t work like either of them. Tapping to the left or right of the dots in the multiple page viewer of Safari only selects the page and zooms to fit the page. So much for consistent user interface!
