Apple just released the fourth version of their iPhone SDK, and unlike previous revisions, this one has some new features that are actually worth getting excited about. The most notable addition is OpenGL ES support, which means the iPhone (for now, the iPhone Simulator) can render OpenGL ES commands. The iPhone is the latest member to join the OpenGL ES (embedded systems) club- Symbian and Android have supported it for a while now. The Sony Playstation 3 also uses OpenGL as its graphics API, which may or may not be an indication of the iPhone’s future graphics prowess.

You can download the latest SDK here.

  1. When are we going to get Flash, though? Maybe it will come with version 2.0 of the iPhone…
