iPhone 3G ready to overtake the original iPhone in sales

It looks like the iPhone 3G has been an incredible success as compared to the original iPhone, this news comes despite the connection and battery issues that we are often hearing about. According to TechCrunch, Apple will reach the 6 million mark for the iPhone 3G sometime next week, which means that it will then outnumber the original iPhone in terms of sales.

This is honestly a pretty amazing number when you think about it. Consider that it took Apple just about a full year to sell 6 million iPhones the first time as compared to a little less than the two months it took them with the iPhone 3G. It also took Apple 74 days to sell the first million, where the iPhone 3G hit the one million mark in just the first weekend.

Currently sources are estimating production rates at somewhere around 750,000 to 800,000 per week and Apple is still on track to sell the expected 40 million in the next year.

These numbers certainly make you realize two things, first is that the iPhone is now for everyone, and second, its also safe to say that now is a good time to be a iPhone app developer.
