iPhone 3G Hands-on Round-Up
Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky ones that got a chance to play with the iPhone 3G for a little bit, but there are a few people that were.
It is a general consensus that the iPhone 3G looks and feels the same, only the iPhone 3G being a little more sturdier feeling in the hand because of its slight bulkiness. It is good to say that the reports are mostly positive.
Gizmodo’s Brian Lam had these first impressions regarding the iPhone 3G: “In my hand, the 3G iPhone is lighter, fits better, and noticeably thinner feeling as it doesn’t have the same squarish shape. (You won’t notice that it is thicker at all.) I made a call with it, side by side with my 1st generation iPhone, and the reception is noticeably better as well. I can’t even believe this is frigging AT&T anymore.” I never had reception problems with my iPhone but it is always a great thing that I wont start getting them with the iPhone 3G. That is one reason for the plastic back - to enhance all the wireless chips inside the device.
Engadget’s Ryan Block did some speed testing. “We did a quick data test — at our location we went from 104Kbps on the EDGE iPhone to 215Kbps on the 3G model. 2x ain’t bad, yo.” It “ain’t” bad at all and once I get my hand on one, I plan to test this out as well in my area...well, close to my area since my area does not offer 3G as of yet.
Joanna Stern wrote on her blog for Laptop Mag and was lucky enough to get some photos of the new white iPhone 3G. Gizmodo’s Brian Lam stated that the white iPhone 3G was “very feminine” in appearance. I’m not sure everyone feels the same. Although contemplating the white one, I decided I was going to go with Black because in my opinion, it is sleeker.
In my non-hands-on review, I’d like to state that the rumored front camera is disappointing as it is not there. That is the only external problem I have with the iPhone 3G. Internally, my problems (which if we scream loud enough about) will be fixed soon, such as copy-and-past, enhanced bluetooth, and flash. All these extras are features that Steve Jobs wants us to wait for to seed to us down the line so we won’t get bored. Stay tuned…
Either way, July 11th is the day we will all make our final decisions.

I want to see someone rip one open and mod it, put the camera in the front for giggles, or take the cam out of their now $99 iPhone 1.0 an have two! Prolly the one think I miss about my old BlackJack, the camera.
