The "missing" iPhone ringtone
We've all seen the iPhone ads. As my wife says, "I get it! The iPhone is for sale! I GET IT!"Like I said, we've all seen them.
None are identical, but most have something in common. Namely, that peculiar ringtone. We call it peculiar because it isn't actually included with the iPhone. Luckily, most of us have it installed on our computers already.
As LifeClever points out, those with iLife '08 installed can find the ringtone in
- /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/Work - Home/Cell Phone Ringing.aif.
Finally, select "Send ringtone to iTunes" from the "Share" menu and you're all set. If that seems like too much work for you, just download the file as a ringtone here. Incidentally, there are a lot more sound files in Loops directories that would make good ringtones as well.

You can also find free Garageband-created ringtones for the iPhone at http://ringtoneyouriphone.blogspot.com. They are in the right format for iTunes and will show up on your iPhone as ringtones--all for free!

Oh and Dave Caolo, I agree with many others here, these are two different ringtones. The one in the commercial is not the one this story is about. They are different - definitely different.

I still get a kick when my girlfriend rings me and 'Elvis - A Little Less Conversation' starts playing.

The iPhone has been out nearly a year and you're just figuring this out now?!
Should have asked me the day after ringtones came out... That was my first ringtone added to my phone...

And why should you start digging in your file system, copy, import if it´s already a loop? Just click the "eye" symbol in the lower left of GarageBands main window and enter "phone" in the search area; bingo, there it is.

So I don't suppose anybody wants to upload this file for those of us who uninstalled GarageBand to save some space, eh..? eh?

There's a link in the article.
It's actually a .cif on my machine not a .aif. It's a bit of a hassle getting garageband to create it - the instructions do work, but they imply famiiarity with the program first ('click on the cycle region button' for example had me hunting for about 10 minutes).

I appreciate the response, I should be better about RTFA'ing!

I would really like to know how to answer a phone call just my tapping answer instead of sliding the bar. They do it in the commercial....

When the phone in unlocked(not in sleep mode) you can answer a call just by tapping answer. You have to slide to answer when the phone is locked in sleep mode.
Steve said 9:12AM on 4-30-2008
That only happens if the phone is already awake. If you are browsing on safari, for example, and someone calls, it comes up with an answer button instead of the slider.

What I really want to know is how you get the photo of the person to show up as a little box in the corner when they call. All my calls show the person full screen. Does this have to do with how you attach the photo to the contact (i.e. if you select "take a photo" versus "assign a photo")?

If you assign a photo using "Address Book" (on your computer), then the photo appears in the top corner. It appears as the background when the photo is assigned to the contact using the iPhone.

Thanks for a clarification.
