Over 400,000 unlocked iPhones being used in China

China Mobile, China’s largest wireless telecommunications provider, said that around 400,000 of its customers were using an iPhone on their network at the end of 2007. (Obviously, the only way they could be using an iPhone would be for them to purchase it abroad and unlock it.) This figure is most impressive when compared to the number of iPhones Apple claims to have shipped. If the numbers provided by China Mobile are accurate, these phones represent one out of every ten iPhones sold worldwide.

It’s statistics like these that make you wonder if apple is really trying to make its phone impervious to modifications, or if maybe they’re just letting a few things slip by- just for, oh, the sale of 400,000 more phones.
