Google exec: Android will outsell the iPhone

Rich Minder, manager for mobile platforms (read: Android) at Google, was quoted as saying, “Once you have devices out there from Motorola, HTC, Samsung, and so on, there’s a much larger potential market on Android than for the iPhone.” He also said that Android has the possibility to outsell the iPhone simply due to its multi-platform nature and appeal to a wider audience than Apple’s luxury device.

This makes complete sense to us- it’s like saying the Symbian OS sold more copies than the iPhone. The main issue here is whether or not Google will able to return as big of a profit on each device’s sale as Apple does with the iPhone- we say it won’t be possible. Another interesting fact- Google claims that the Android SDK has been downloaded 750,000 times since its release this November. Just for comparison, the iPhone SDK has been downloaded 100,000 times since it was released- just a few weeks ago.
