Apple has published a press release stating that they have sold 5,000,000,000 songs on the iTunes Store. On top of this, Apple is the largest music retailer in the United States (old news) and more surprisingly, they are selling and renting 50,000 movies a day. This latter bit of info makes them “the world’s most popular online movie store” as well.
Apple’s catalogue online consists of 8 million songs, 20,000 TV episodes, and 2,000 movies, more than 350 of which are in high definition. Any and all of this content can be moved to their mobile devices such as the iPhone, any iPod with a screen, and the Apple TV.
Personally, I think Apple should celebrate this by giving everybody some free music. Who’s with me?
