1.1.3 unlockable out of the box
So says George Hotz, who you may remember from his infamous hardware unlock back in August of last year—if not, don’t worry, we’ve posted his face as a refresher. This time, the procedure doesn’t require you to take life, limb, and soldering iron into your own hands, but nor is it a straightforward GUI method either. You’re going to have to spend some time in the command line. If that scares the ever-living bejeezus out of you, that I might—gently, ever so gently—suggest that this unlock is not for you.
Hotz has posted the information on his blog; you’ll need to downgrade to 1.0.2 in order to carry out the unlock, so you may need to cast around and find instructions on how to do that. All the usual caveats apply: you may brick your phone, and you will probably have issues upgrading to newer software when it eventually comes out, but if you want to join the Missing Million with a brand new iPhone, it appears it’s certainly possible.

Again, this really isn't an unlock for 1.1.3, it's an unlock for 1.0.2. If you downgrade to 1.0.2, and then unlock it, you've got an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone. At that point you can't upgrade to 1.1.3 without locking the phone back. So how is this an unlock for 1.1.3?

@rg - isn't the point here that up until now if you bought a new iPhone it was likely to be 1.1.3, and that meant no way to unlock. So now, if unlocked is what you want, you can still get a new one and unlock it.

Do you have any idea about this iPhone hack at href="http://techtaxi.blogspot.com/2008/02/how-to-hack-iphone.html? The one using Jailbreak and the Chip.... Does it allow future firmware updates? Has anybody used this hack before. What are the results?

Update. New 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 OTB unlock. News on modmyifone.
